The new permanent exhibitions

Both State Museums – for Art and Cultural History Kunst and for Archaeology – enjoy an excellent reputation far beyond the borders of Schleswig-Holstein. We plan to redesign the permanent exhibitions with more options to participate and have an occasional break.

Moreover, after completion of the restoration works, clear orientation systems will guide through the exhibitions, simplifying orientation and providing the visitor the choice as to the scope of the tour.

Within the course of this reorganisation, the content of the permanent exhibitions will be streamlined and they will be moved within the castle. For example, initial drafts plan starting the archaeological tour in the basement with a focus on bog bodies, death and beyond, to be followed chronologically on the ground floor.

The topic of the Middle Ages, also significant for art and cultural history, will be split, making joint exhibition areas in both museums conceivable.
